India Independence Day Parade 2011

NEW YORK - Mayoites from the North American chapter marched in the annual India Day parade at Madison Avenue on 21st August 2011.

It was a proud moment for us to carry the Tri-color and the Panch-ranga Mayo flag in front of thousands of fellow Indians who were chanting "Bharat Mata ki Jai".

The Mayo contingent was led my Mr. Subroto Mitro (Class of 1955-64) and included old boys, girls and their families. Anna Hazare's popularity in United States was clearly visible to us as lots of people wearing the famous Anna cap and carrying anti-corruption banners cheered. Bollywood actors Rani Mukherji and Gulshan Grover were also present at the parade.

In the evening, we gathered at The Pierre, New York for a get-together party. It was a great evening, catching up with fellow Mayoites and remembering the good old days! We all enjoyed very much.
